Two of Byron Bear's four accused killers have preliminary hearings set

Byron Bear’s remains were found in a rural area near Hague on Feb. 10

PRINCE ALBERT – Preliminary hearings have been set in Prince Albert Provincial Court for two of the four men accused of killing Byron Lee Bear.

Twenty-seven-year-old Bear’s family reported him missing Dec. 7, 2021. Prince Albert Police say it was believed he was involved in a serious assault early in the morning of Dec. 6, 2021, at a home in the 300 block of 9 Street East. Police had responded to a call of gunshots at about 4 a.m. that morning but didn’t find a victim or evidence of a serious assault. Bear’s remains were found in a rural area near Hague on Feb. 10.

On Feb. 9, Raine Tristen Von Farrow, 23, was the first to be arrested and the next day Kyle Angus Burns, 37, was arrested in Prince Albert.  On Feb. 17, 30-year-old Riley Patrick Primeau was arrested in Canmore, Alta., and brought back to Saskatchewan. On March 3, Daniel Dustin Oliver was arrested at a home in the 1700 block of 15 Street West in Prince Albert. They were all charged with second-degree murder.

Burns has a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 2023 and Oliver’s is set for February 2023. Von Farrow and Primeau are back in court on Oct. 27 to speak to their matters.

The charges against the accused haven’t been tested in court.
