Firefighters with the Humboldt Fire Department were at the scene of a two-semi collision on Hwy. 5 east in Humboldt on February 15. This unit smashed into the rear end of another truck when it was attempting to turn left off the highway.

Two semis and a left-hand turn added up to a two-vehicle collision on the east end of Humboldt last week.
At about 1:30 p.m. on February 15, a semi trailer unit travelling westbound on Hwy. 5 had slowed to make a left-hand turn onto the service road near the Humboldt Co-op Card Lock when it was struck from behind by another semi, also travelling westbound.
Though neither of the drivers, both from Saskatoon, was injured in the collision, substantial damage was done to the vehicles, reported Const. John Gillis of the Humboldt RCMP.
The vehicle in the lead suffered a large amount of damage to its rear end, while the second semi had such severe damage to its front end, it was written off.
The collision, Gillis noted, caused leaks of both diesel fuel and oil from the vehicles. Firefighters from the Humboldt Fire Department attended the scene to clean up the mess using sand and a special absorbent from the Humboldt Co-op.
"The Humboldt Fire Department did an excellent job cleaning up," Gillis said.
Firefighters also assisted in getting the debris and vehicles off the road.
Neither semi was carrying combustible material, Gillis noted.
Charges have been laid against the driver of the second semi for driving without due care and attention.
