Update: Meadow Lake RCMP charge two women after complaint of abduction

RCMP continue to look for two suspects, both females, who may be headed to Loon Lake, Saskatoon or Regina

One of two suspect vehicles described as a black, 2010 two-door Kia Forte with Saskatchewan license plate 808MHS has been located in Grande Prairie, Alta.

MEADOW LAKE - Update Friday 2:50 p.m.: On Sept. 15, at approximately 3 a.m., Meadow Lake and Loon Lake RCMP were dispatched to a reported abduction. An adult female victim reported she had been abducted at gunpoint from the Centre St. area in Meadow Lake at approximately 1:15 a.m. She was later dropped off in a rural area near Barthel, and called police. She was robbed but not hurt.

The woman reported to police that there was a second female victim.

Meadow Lake RCMP, with the assistance of other RCMP units, began a search for the woman, as well as the two suspects and the two cars they were reported to be driving, both of which were determined to be stolen.

Later on Sept. 15, Grande Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a report of a woman advising she had escaped from abductors within the city of Grande Prairie. Investigation determined the woman was the second female abduction victim. She had non-life-threatening injuries.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Provincial General Investigation Section took carriage of the investigation. In partnership with the Grande Prairie General Investigation Section, officers arrested both woman in Grand Prairie on September 16.

Lana Aubichon, 37, and Janelle Chatelaine,28, both of Meadow Lake, SK are each charged with:

  • 2 counts, use a firearm in a kidnapping, Section 279(1.1)(a.1)(a), Criminal Code
  • 2 counts, use a firearm during a robbery, Section 344(1)(a.1), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, utter threats, Section 264.1(1), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, possession of weapon while prohibited, Section 109(1), Criminal Code

Aubichon was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.

Both Aubichon and Chatelaine will make their first court appearance in Meadow Lake on September 23, 2021.

Update Thursday 6:05 p.m.: The female victim in a report of an abduction has been located in Grande Prairie, Alta., with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Black Kia has also been located in Grande Prairie.

The two female suspects, as well as the white, two-door 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier with Saskatchewan license plate 625LSY, have not been located. Police continue to urge anyone that sees the car or suspects to call 9-1-1.

The investigation is ongoing and no other details are available at this time.

Background Thursday 8:20 a.m.: On Sept. 15 at approximately 3 a.m., Meadow Lake RCMP and Loon Lake RCMP were dispatched to a report of an abduction.

Two vehicles and two suspects are involved in this incident.

The victim reported to police that there is a second female victim. This female was already with the suspects when the victim was abducted and was still with the suspects when the victim was dropped off in the rural area.

Meadow Lake RCMP, with the assistance of other Saskatchewan RCMP units, are actively trying to locate this female.

The female is described as being of small stature. No other description is available at this time.

The first suspect vehicle is described as a black, 2010 two-door Kia Forte with Saskatchewan license plate 808MHS. 

The second suspect vehicle is a white, two-door 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier with Saskatchewan license plate 625LSY.

The suspects are both females. The first is described as approximately 5’5”, small to average build, with blond hair and an eyebrow ring. The second is described as approximately 5’5”, small to average build with brown hair and an eyebrow ring.

They may be headed to Loon Lake, Saskatoon or Regina, but this has not been confirmed.
