Ward selected as new president of Humboldt chamber

Ward said she is encouraged by the opportunities ahead for the region as the chamber investigates establishing a business incubator to promote business growth.

HUMBOLDT — A new president has been selected for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce.

Tammy Ward, the manager of the Humboldt Conexus branch, took the role effective May 11.

"The chamber has done well to adapt to changing needs within our region and I look forward to continuing that work," she said. "Our current board of directors bring skills that will allow the chamber to look at new opportunities that will support our members as well as create support systems for new and existing businesses within our region."

Brent Walker, the former president, was the general manager of Humboldt Co-op. He announced May 10 that he accepted a position with Federated Co-operatives Limited and is relocating to Red Deer, Alta.

"I am so proud of what we have accomplished as a chamber over the past few years and I feel that the future is bright for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce as we continue achieve the goals in our strategic plan," he said. "Knowing the new directors that joined this year combined with the existing directors I know that I am leaving the chamber in a great place."

Ward expressed excitement about the future of the chamber and local businesses in general.

"I am encouraged by the opportunities ahead for our region, as I know the chamber will play an important role in bringing the right people together to help our region succeed together," she said.

"The preliminary work on developing a [business] incubator or accelerator is one project that I am excited to have a dedicated committee working on."
