It was a tale of two days, as track and field athletes battled for provincial berths and school pride at the annual Battle West track and field meet May 23 and 24 at the Centennial Track in North Battleford.
Wednesday was wet and windy, but the skies cleared and the event concluded Thursday as 85 athletes qualified for provincials that take place Friday and Saturday in Saskatoon.
John Paul II won the overall standings at the district meet and had 14 athletes qualify for provincials.
Riley Boczulak will compete in the midget 1500 and 800m runs and triple jump. Logan Nachtegaele will participate in the 100m dash and long jump. Noah Campbell will race in the 400m dash. Erik Mak will run in the 400m dash at the midget level.
In the junior male division, Brandon Ross will run the 800 and 1500m races. Quin Cubbon will compete in 100m hurdles and the 3000m run.
Trenton Eckel and Blake Young will both run in the 400m dash at the senior level.
Brooklyn Coburn will be a strong representative in the female midget long jump event. Cassidy Stynsky will compete in the 1500 and 800m runs in the same division.
At the junior female level, Renee Rentz will run the 100 and 200m dashes. Tiandra Ewanchuk will compete in the 800m run. Bethany McQuaid will run the 1500m race.
Alyssa Denton will compete in high jump at the senior female level.
North Battleford Comprehensive High School will send six athletes to provincials this year.
Brendon Grosjean will run in the 100m hurdles, 1500 and 3000m runs in the senior male division. Colby Cave will be in same division and compete in long jump and the 200m dash. Dion Tederoff will run in the 100 and 200m dashes as well.
Taylor Cave will represent NBCHS in the midget female division in discus.
In the female junior division Taisley Isaac will compete in the 1500 and 3000m runs.
Mikaela York will look to put her provincial track and field experience to the test in the 800, 1500 and 3000m runs at the senior level.
McLurg High School in Wilkie was fourth in the overall standings, but had the second most athletes qualify for provincials with 13.
Troy Gerein will compete at the male midget level in the 100 and 200m dashes and long jump.
Mark Karstens will participate in the 100m dash and long and triple jump at the junior male level. Brandon Alm will compete in the junior male javelin event. Dustin Davies will compete in high jump at the same level. Austin Heintz will participate in shot put and discus.
At the senior male level Joel Karstens will run the 100m dash at provincials and compete in long and triple jump.
Jessica Karstens will compete in the 400, 800, 1500 and 3000m races at the female midget level. Taylor Hoffman will run in the 100m dash in the same division.
In the junior female division, Rachel Mamer is one of the few Battle West athletes who will compete in the maximum four events as she competes in discus, shot put, triple jump and javelin. Chelsea Gruber will run in the 100, 200 and 400m dashes. Justine Herle will compete in long jump and high jump.
Andria Karstens will run in the 800, 1500 and 3000m races at the senior female level. Adriana Hoffman will compete in the 100m dash and triple jump in the same category.
Unity placed second in overall points behind John Paul II and had 11 athletes qualify for provincials.
Gavin Dyck will participate in shot put in the midget division.
At the senior male level, Keenan Lang will run in the 100m dash as well as high jump. Dustin Ubell will run in the 800m race. Dustin Wallace will participate in shot put.
Nikita Lantz will compete in high jump at the midget female level. Kyla Van de Meutter will compete in the same category in the 200 and 400m races.
Jessica Weber will compete in javelin and shot put at the junior female level.
Kerry Gerein is a four-event senior athlete as she will compete in the 100, 200 and 400m dashes and long jump. Sydney David will take part in shot put at the senior female level. Kelsey Wildeman will compete in discus and shot put in the same division. Katy Robertson will compete in javelin at the senior level as well.
Spiritwood finished fifth overall in the point standings and had 10 qualify for provincials.
Dylan Joachim will compete in the midget division in discus. Connor Deihl will run in the 100m hurdles and 200m dash at the midget level. Aiden Nielsen-Clarke will compete at the same level in the boys' 100m hurdles event. Devin Wingerter will participate in shot put at the midget level as well.
Junior athlete Colton Poulin will compete in the 200m dash. In the same division, Brent Starblanket will run in the 400, 800, 1500 and 3000m races.
Senior athlete Chance Henderson will compete in the 1500m run.
Emily Fusnik will run in the 3000m and compete in triple jump at the midget level.
Lauren Iverson will participate in the junior division in triple and long jump.
Brittany Lehman will compete in the senior female long jump event.
Medstead was third in overall points and the winner of the Kirkpatrick award, which goes to the school with the most points divided by students eligible to compete. Medstead had nine students qualify for provincials.
At the midget male level, Beau Jesse will compete on behalf of Medstead in javelin. Josh Orange will participate in high jump and the 3000m run,
Wyatt Moore will be competing in the junior male javelin event.
In the senior male category, Scott Seidle will compete in the long, high and triple jump events and javelin. Solomon Rise will compete in senior javelin.
Mackenzie Seidle will compete in 80m hurdles, triple jump, long jump and shot put at the midget level. Danielle Orange will compete in discus and shot put as a female midget athlete.
Haley Enns will compete in girls' discus and high jump in the junior division. In the same division, Brianna Hill will compete in the 400 and 3000m dash.
Hafford will send seven athletes to provincials after they placed fourth in the Kirkpatrick Award totals.
Cole Fendelet will compete in the javelin at the midget level.
At the senior level, Cole Janostin will run the 3000m race. Braden Kowalchuk will compete in shot put and discus.
Kirsty Kindrachuk will participate in high jump and javelin at the midget level.
Jocelyn Fendelet will compete in the 80m hurdles in the junior category. In the same division, Kalin Sitter will compete in the 80m hurdles.
Sarah Jones will compete in the senior 80m hurdles and triple jump.
Luseland will send four student athletes to provincials.
At the midget level, Lyndon Kloster will compete in the 800, 1500 and 3000m runs.
Conner Anderson will compete in discus at the senior level.
Kristen Mitzel will compete in the midget category in javelin.
Nicole Kennedy will run in the 400m dash as well as high jump at the senior level.
Matt Bonneau will be one of three athletes to represent Leoville at provincials, as he will compete in the discus at the midget level. Jordon Henri will compete in the junior division in the 100 and 200m dashes, long jump and triple jump. The other athlete from Leoville is Braydon Chalifour who will compete in 100m hurdles, 400m dash and high jump in the junior division.
Cut Knife's representative will be Jayden Waldner in 80m hurdles at the midget level and Aleah Anseth in discus and javelin at the senior level.
Maymont's lone representative will be Carter Amson at the junior male level in shot put.
St. George in Wilkie will be represented by Cjardai Ulrich at the midget female level in the 100 and 200m dash.
Athletes from Macklin, Kerrobert and Major round out the Battle West team.
