The Battlefords AAA Stars (28-15-0-1) ended their regular season on the weekend, finishing on a three-game winning streak.
After a 10-3 win over the Notre Dame Argos last Sunday, the Stars were on the road once again Thursday to Saskatoon to face the Contacts (26-15-0-3).
Spencer Bast scored twice and added an assist in a 4-2 win, securing fourth place and home ice in the first round of the playoffs.
The Contacts jumped on the board in the first period when Jimmy Lambert beat Brett Pongracz with 7:11 remaining in the opening period. Kole Lind and Garrett Pilon were credited with assists.
The Stars came to life in the second as Bast, Troy Gerein and Kyle Salaway all scored to give them a 3-1 lead after two.
Bast scored his first of the game just 36 seconds into the period from Layne Young and Tyler Baier.
Gerein and Salaway each scored power-play goals just 1:07 apart mid-way through the period.
In the third Jordan Borstmayer got his Contacts within a goal when he scored on the power play 7:03 into the period from Pilon and Lambert.
Bast iced the game with the empty-net goal with 34 seconds remaining from Keifer Hintz and Gerein.
Saturday the Stars returned home for their final home game of the regular season against the lowly Argos.
Traye Tatchuk, Gerein, Hintz, Kalen Holt and Kaleb Dahlgren all had multi-point performances in an 8-3 win.
After winning the SMAAAHL championship last season, the Argos finished this year with a 6-38-0-0 record.
With their win over the Argos Sunday the Contacts secured fifth spot in the playoffs and will face off against the Stars in the opening round.
