The regular season is on again for the Battlefords AAA Stars and it was a familiar rival that they faced at home to begin their hockey season at the Civic Centre.
The Regina Pat Canadians were at the Civic Centre to face the Stars, a rematch of the final series from last year that the Pat Canadians won in four games.
In this game, it took a while for both teams to get going. In fact the first goal wasn't scored until the second period when Mason Mullaney scored from Kenzie Arnold on the power play to make it 1-0.
The Pat Canadians tied it midway through the frame as Carson Focht scored from Matthew Chekay and Turner Ripplinger.
In the third period, Jayden Nachtegaele's goal from JC Dubecky with 40 seconds on the clock sealed up a 2-1 Stars win on Saturday afternoon. Jake Taylor stopped 16 of 17 shots for the win.
In the second game Sunday at the Civic Centre, it shaped up as another low-scoring game.
It took a while, but the Stars did score first in the second period when Tanner Brewster scored from Dawson Bacon and Kenzie Arnold on the power play.
Early in the third, with Ben Solomon off for tripping, the Stars' Keelan Saworski got a power play goal of his own from Bacon and Luke Reid to make it 2-0 Stars.
Regina got on the scoreboard midway through the third period with Thomas Goldade scoring on the power play.
But Saworski added another goal, Bacon assisting, with 9:41 remaining and, even though Tanner Bobyck would later add one more for Regina, the Battlefords Stars hung on for a 3-2 win.
Lance Alm stopped 32 of 34 for the win for the Stars.
Next action for the Stars is Thursday night at the Civic Centre against the Saskatoon Contacts.
