Stars 4 Beardy's 1

Coach Martin Smith's boys were in Beardy's Frist Nation Thursday night, as the Battlefords AAA Stars were looking to return to the win column against the Blackhawks.

The first period was scoreless, but an explosive second period on the score sheet put the Stars ahead. Goals by Ben Hiltz, Jordan Mish and Jayden Nachtegaele gave the Stars an immediate 3-0 lead.

After Cody Madarash took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Keelan Saworski's power play goal from Owen Lamb midway through the third period made it 4-0. With 3:22 remaining, a goal from the Blackhawks' Shay Kiryk, also on the power play, ruined the shutout bid of Jake Taylor, who nevertheless stopped 23 of 24 shots for the Stars victory. Kody Kushniruk was able to stop only 26 of 30 in net for Beardy's.

Yorkton 5 Stars 3

The Stars got into a hole early and often against the Yorkton RawTec Maulers at the Civic Centre Saturday night.

A too many men penalty against the Stars led to a early power play goal by Damian Bentz. Later, a shorthanded goal by Bentz late in the first period put the Maulers up 2-0.

The second period saw the Maulers explode with three more goals from Kylan Shea (on the power play), Beau Stevenson and Brett Kemp, for a 5-0 lead.

But the Stars cut into the lead with goals from Dawson Bacon, Kent Hansen and Jared Schmidt, to make it 5-3 going into the third.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Stars would get. Lance Alm faced 29 shots in defeat for the Stars. Jordan Schmuland stopped 27 of 30 for the win in net for Yorkton.

Stars 8 Yorkton 2

The Maulers and Stars were back in action again Sunday afternoon at the Civic Centre, and this time the Stars got off to a much better start, in large part due to the efforts of Tanner Brewster.

Brewster's goal midway through the period from JC Dubecky and Owen Lamb, followed by a power play goal from Brewster with Lamb assisting, made it 2-0 Stars through one.

With the Maulers' Austin Shumanski off for holding, Keelan Saworski's power play goal at the 4:40 mark of the second period from Kent Hanson and Brandon Griffiths made it 3-0 Stars.

But Yorkton came back as Carson Miller and then Drayson Skulmoski (on the power play) added goals to cut it to 3-2. In the second period, shots also favoured Yorkton 17-12.

The Maulers continued to outshoot the Stars early in the third, but the Stars broke it open with two goals midway through the third period.

Dubecky from Luke Reid, and then Rett Taggart from Griffiths and Blake Fennig restored the three-goal lead for the Battlefords.

Brewster's hat trick goal with under three minutes remaining made it 6-2, and goals by Karstin McDonald (power play) and Donavon Beatty rounded out the scoring in a convincing 8-2 win. The Stars outshot the Maulers 40-35.

The AAA Stars now have a record of four wins, one loss and one shootout loss to start the season. The next game for the Stars is Friday in
