Battle West athletes earn high rankings at track and field provincials

Two athletes from the Battle West District were in the top six of the individual rankings in their respective groups at the SHSAA provincial track meet last weekend in Moose Jaw.

Two athletes from the Battle West District were in the top six of the individual rankings in their respective groups at the SHSAA provincial track meet last weekend in Moose Jaw.

Kody Grigor from North Battleford Comprehensive High School was the top athlete in the junior boys' group with 54 points. Hannah Josuttes finished second amongst senior girls, picking up 58.5 points in her competitions.

Grigor earned top spot by winning the junior boys' high jump competition, clearing the bar set at 1.75 metres. He finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.98 metres.

Josuttes won the senior girls' long jump with a distance of 5.13 metres. She placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.7 metres. Josuettes also finished second in the 80M hurdles with a time of 12.54 seconds.

Other athletes from the Battle West District placed in the top six of their respective events. Drew Beavers from NBCHS finished second in the midget girls' 400M, completing the race in 1:02.94. She also placed fourth in the 100M, finishing in 13.34 seconds. Hafford's Aiden Sitter finished behind Grigor in the junior boys' high jump. He was unable to make the 1.75-metre jump.

NBCHS's Nahoni Tootoosis's jump of 10.25M earned her third place in the midget girls' triple jump. Randi Siemens from Medstead finished third in the midget girls' discus with a throw of 27.79 metres.

Edam's Tyson Long placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.88 metres. He also finished fifth in the long jump with a length of 5.47 metres. Justice Laroque from NBCHS finished the 200M in 24.87 seconds, placing fourth in the midget boys' final. Unity's Brant Bertoira finished fourth in the junior boys' triple jump covering a distance of 11.91 metres.

Damien Tough from Turtleford earned a fifth-place finish in the midget boys' javelin with a throw of 42.63 metres.

Wilkie's Chelsea Gruber finished sixth in the tetrathlon with 1,896 total points. The tetrathlon is comprised of a 100M dash, 800M run, long jump and shot put. Gruber finished fourth in the 800M with a time of 2:41.35 and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.31 metres.

Medstead's Danielle Orange's throw of 30.13 metres earned her a sixth-place finish in the senior girls' discus event.

The Battle West District placed in the top six of both the girls' and boys' 4x400M relay. The girls' team finished in fifth with a time of 4:22.03 and the boys' team placed sixth in 3:46.65.
