Battlefords hockey look-ahead for Dec. 3-5

Lots of action for Battlefords hockey fans to watch this weekend.

NORTH BATTLEFORD - Here is a preview of this weekend's games involving the Battlefords area’s prominent hockey teams:

This Saturday, Dec. 4 at Access Communications Centre, the Battlefords North Stars host the Notre Dame Hounds in an SJHL Global Ag Tech Solutions divisional contest. 

It promises to be an exciting matchup between two teams that have produced some overtime thrillers in their last few outings. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

A reminder to fans that on Dec. 4 the North Stars will host a Pizza and Beer fundraiser, at Raptor Lounge at Access Communications Centre, prior to the game starting at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for a beer and a slice of pizza, courtesy Armoury Beer and Domino's Pizza.

Two North Stars players have earned SJHL honours during the past few days:

Michael Harroch has been named both the SaskTel Goaltender of the Week and also Goaltender of the Month. Last week Harroch posted two wins and a 2.66 goals-against for the week, stopping 67 of 72 shots against Notre Dame and Estevan. He posted a perfect record of seven wins and zero defeats in November, with a goals against of 2.36.

Steven Kesslering has been named RBC Forward of the Week, coming on the heels of the North Stars’ recent southeast road trip that saw him score three goals. 

In male AAA U18 play the Battlefords Stars play Warman on the road at Legends Centre Friday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. that night. They head to Prince Albert to play the Mintos Dec. 8. 

In male AA U18 in the Centre Four League, the Northwest Stars host Saskatoon SaberCats this Saturday at 4:45 p.m. at Access Communications Centre.

In female U18 action, the town of Wilkie will be welcoming the stars of AAA female hockey this weekend. The Battleford Sharks face the Swift Current Wildcats this Sunday, Dec. 5 in a special neutral site contest at the SaskCan Community Centre in Wilkie. Game time is 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

In the Sask. Prairie Hockey League, Meota Combines were set to host Radisson Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. at Access Communications Centre in North Battleford, while the Battleford Beaver Blues were in Maidstone at 9 p.m. that night. The other game Friday sees Spiritwood host Turtleford.

Saturday night action sees the Blues host Spiritwood at 8 p.m. at Battleford Arena, while at 8:30 p.m. Turtleford hosts Meota. The 9 p.m. game sees Maidstone host Maymont.
