It’s getting down to crunch time for the hockey teams in the area.

NORTH BATTLEFORD - Here is a look at some the action from Battlefords and area teams over this past weekend:

The regular season has wrapped up and playoff action is now underway in the Sask Prairie Hockey League. In opening games of their series, the Meota Combines hammered Spiritwood 13-1 in North Battleford Sunday. The Combines were led by Jayden Nachtegaele with four goals and Calvin Koczka with three.

In other action Perdue lost at Turtleford 4-0 Saturday, and Radisson beat Maymont 7-3 in Radisson Sunday. Those three series resume with games Friday night in Spiritwood, Perdue and Radisson. The other series has Battleford taking on Maymont.

This Saturday and Sunday the Battlefords AAA Stars picked up two much-welcome victories over the Tisdale Trojans on the road in male U18 action.

The first was a 4-2 win Saturday night. The Stars got goals from Treycen Wuttunee and Zane Normand in the first period. Tisdale came back to tie the game in period three, but Rhett Briltz gave the Stars the lead and then Normand’s second of the game into an empty net sealed the win.

Sunday afternoon the Stars beat the Trojans again 6-4. Briltz opened the scoring and the Stars got goals from Jakin Lawrence, Wuttunee, Normand, Kobie Anderson and Dawson Gerbing en route to the win.

The wins move the Stars within five points of eighth place in the league standings. The next game for the Stars is Friday, at home to Yorkton.

In female U18, the Battlefords Sharks have a busy home schedule ahead. They are back in action Thursday at home to Prince Albert and Saturday and Sunday at home to Regina.
