Roddy Hoffman, Jerome Boucher and Jon Hosegood celebrate a first period goal

The Battlefords Beaver Blues hosted the Shellbrook Silvertips at Battleford Arena for game 1 of the SPHL playoffs.

After an offensive season series between the two, one that saw 32 goals, a low-scoring affair saw the Silvertips come out on the winning side of a 4-1 game.

Just five minutes into the tilt, Jon Hosegood split the defence before cutting into the slot, wristing a shot top left corner to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. Jerome Boucher found Hosegood before breaking into the offensive zone.

Mitch Hawtin kept it a one-goal game midway through the first, going post-to-post before stopping a one-time shot from a determined Silvertips team.

Shellbrook found the back of the net with six minutes left in the opening period. Parker Turner busted down the left wing before finding Brett Mason in the slot, beating Hawtin with the one-timer this time, over his glove to tie the game at one. It proved to be the eventual game winner.

Scoring came in bunches for the Silvertips, taking the lead just one minute later. Tavis Wason corralled a feed from Josh Elliot, snapping a shot from the left hashmark, giving the Silvertips a 2-1 advantage.

Elliot later iced the game on a breakaway, putting on a forehand, backhand, forehand move, scoring on the shortside. The Silvertips later added an empty netter.

Game two is tomorrow in Shellbrook. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m.
