That is how senior baseball is supposed to be played.

Friday night, the undefeated North Battleford Beavers took on the 5-1 Wilkie Brewers at Beavers Lions Stadium.

The teams expected a pitching duel coming in, as both squads had their aces on the mound and that was exactly what they got. Rylan Rogers started for the Beavers and faced off against Wilkie's Aaron Sittler.

Both teams had a runner reach base early so the perfect games and no-hitters were out of the picture, but both pitchers were nearly perfect until the sixth inning, racking up strikeouts and quick innings in the field.

After Sittler led off and scored on an error in the sixth, the Beavers responded with a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1. Rory Gregoire drilled a line drive through the left side of the infield and scored the tying run.

The seventh inning solved nothing, but the Brewers were finally able to string back-to-back hits together in the eighth inning.

After scoring three runs in the top of the eighth inning, the Brewers needed just three outs to hand the Beavers' their first lost of 2010.

That was easier said then done. The Beavers had runners on the corners with one out and eventually Sittler got Brandon Lampitt to fly out to deep left field to end the game 4-3.

Both pitchers went the complete game and now the two rivals sit second and third in the league behind the undefeated Lloydminster Meridian Twins.

The Beavers got their share of baseball in on the weekend as they travelled to Saskatoon to take in the annual Father's Day Tournament.

Other scores from the NSRBL had the Kindersley Raiders moving in the right direction with a 15-4 win over the Midwest Expos Monday night.

Thursday, the Lloydminster Meridian Twins beat the Standard Hill Lakers 12-3 in Lloydminster.

The Midwest Expos beat the Unity Midgets 7-6 in Lloydminster as well Thursday evening.
