Layne Young had three points to lead the Battlefords AAA Stars (16-5-0-0) over the Beardy’s Blackhawks (5-13-0-1) 4-1 Thursday.
Young scored twice and assisted on another as every goal scored in the game came in the third period.
Kyle Salaway broke the deadlock just over a minute into the third, when he scored on Blackhawks goalie David Thiel. Young and Spencer Bast picked up assists on the opening goal.
The Stars kept up the pressure, and scored three goals in 5:23 to blow the game open.
Young scored at 8:19 of the frame assisted by Bast and Brandon Lesko, and just 50 seconds later, Salaway and Derek Frater combined to set up Kaleb Dahlgreen to make it 3-0.
Young picked up his second of the game a few minutes later, to close the door on the Blackhawks.
Trevor Mann scored with just over four minutes remaining in the game, to break the shutout for Stars goalie Brett Pongracz, who finished with 21 saves for his eleventh win of the season.
With the three point effort, Young moved into 11th in league scoring with 14 goals and 14 assists in 20 games this season.
The Stars now play their first home game since November 18 Thursday, when they welcome the Tisdale Trojans (18-2-0-2).
