Broncos Recap
Four goals in the final 31 minutes sunk the Humboldt Broncos as they fell 6-2 to the Melfort Mustangs in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Melfort.

The Dec. 22 contest saw the Broncos give up four goals in the final 30:43 seconds turning a 2-2 tie into a 6-2 deficit, in their final game before the Christmas break.

The game got off to a slow start for the Broncos as former Bronco Andrew Thompson scored his tenth goal of the season at 9:35 to put the Broncos behind 1-0.

Logan Schatz pulled the Broncos back into a tie with his first of two goals on the evening at 16:05, but the Mustangs answered back with their second of the period as Carson Albrecht scored his 12th of the year to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Schatz pulled the Broncos back into a tie with the Mustangs with his second of the night, and 16th of the season, while shorthanded at 7:21 of period two.

Unfortunately for the green and gold, the tie did not last very long as Colin Schmidt scored less than two minutes later, to give the Mustangs the lead back.

Reed Gunville would add his fifth of the season just over seven minutes later to give the Mustangs a 4-2 lead through two periods of play.

The Mustangs would add two more in the third to pick up the 6-2 win.

Special teams were excellent for the Broncos despite the loss, as their power play finished the evening 1-for-5, while their penalty kill finished 5-for-5, with a goal.

Jacob Wassermann was charged with the loss in the Broncos goal allowing five goals on 26 shots before being replaced by Parker Tobin, who gave up one goal on nine shots as the Mustangs outshot the Broncos 35-27.

The Broncos will now enjoy 14 days off before returning to action on Jan. 5 when they visit the Weyburn Red Wings.
