It was an incredibly successful trip to the provincial championships for Calico Gymnastics Club on May 12-14 as they brought home a number of top three finishes in individual events and three all around medals as well.
Provincial 2
Only a pair of Men’s Artistic gymnasts competed in the provincial championship for Calico, with both competing in the same category as Taylor Possberg finished seventh all around, one spot higher than teammate Tristan Marquis who claimed eighth.
Possberg enjoyed a highly consistent competition as he picked up two fifth place finishes on horizontal bars and pommel horse, seventh place finishes on rings, vault, and parallel bars, and a tenth place finish in the floor routine.
Marquis meanwhile, picked up a third place finish on the horizontal bar, coupling that with finishes of sixth on parallel bars, eighth on rings and floor, ninth on pommel horse, and tenth on vault.
Junior Olympic 3B (2007)
Teagan Zazula narrowly missed out on a top three finish in the all around competition as she finished fourth, .350 points behind the third place finisher.
Zazula did manage a top three finish in an individual event however, as she claimed third in the floor routine while adding finishes of fourth on vault, fifth on bars, and tied for seventh on beam.
Zazula’s teammate Kayden Leier enjoyed an extremely consistent competition in her own right claiming 18th in the all around competition, thanks to finishes of eighth on bars, 18th on vault, tied for 19th on beam, and 21st in the floor routine.
Junior Olympic 3D (2004 & Before)
Mickayla Adair was the lone Calico gymnast in her category carrying the Calico flag extremely well as she claimed top spot on the vault.
In addition to her first place finish on the vault, Adair added finishes of tied for fifth in the floor routine, fifth on beam, and sixth on the bars.
Thanks to her four top six finishes Adair was able to claim sixth place in the all around competition just .850 points back of gold.
Junior Olympic 4A (2007-2008)
Raya Wacker picked up a trio of eighth place finishes on the vault, bars, and floor, and coupled those with fourth place finish on the beam to claim seventh place in the all around competition.
Junior Olympic 4B (2005-2006)
Sydney McAvany’s trip to provincials saw her finish outside the top ten in all five competitions, as she finished 13th on the beam, 14th on the vault, tied for 15th on the bars, 17th in floor routine, which was good enough for a 17th place finish in the all around competition.
Junior Olympic 6A (2006-2008)
Eden Rogers picked up a top three finish in an individual event as she claimed a share of second place in the floor routine.
Rogers added finishes of fourth on the vault, fifth on bars, and eighth on the beam and she claimed fifth place in the all around competition.
Junior Olympic 6B (2004-2005)
It was a busy competition for Calico gymnasts in the JO 6B category as Taryn Stock and Ashley Frostad both competed.
Stock finished a couple of spots higher than her Calico teammate as she claimed eighth in the all around competition, thanks to finishes of fifth on bars, tied for eighth on beam, tied for ninth on vault, and tenth on the floor.
Frostad meanwhile, finished with a high of tenth on bars, while also adding finishes of 12th on vault, and 13th on beam, and floor, as she picked up a 13th place finish in the all around competition.
Junior Olympic 7A (2005-2007)
Marie Millette finished as the second most decorated gymnast from Calico at provincials as she claimed three individual top three finishes and a top three finish all around.
Millette’s best event at the competition was her floor routine, which she claimed first place in, while adding second place finishes on the vault and beam, and a sixth place finish on the bars.
Thanks to her win and three top two finishes Millette claimed the all around gold medal.
Junior Olympic 7B (2004 & Before)
The JO 7B category was Calico’s best as they claimed six top three finishes in individual events as well as a pair of top three finishes in the all around competition.
Paige Wuchner wrapped up the competition as Calico’s most decorated gymnast as she claimed first on beam, and bars, second on vault, and third in the floor routine.
Thanks to a quartet of top three finishes in individual events Wuchner also grabbed the all around gold medal.
Kathryn MacLean finished not far behind her Calico teammate as she claimed the all around bronze medal thanks to finishes of second on bars, tied for second on beam, tied for fourth in the floor routine, and eighth on vault.
With provincials now over Calico turns their attention to next season, with training beginning this week.
