Threatening clouds were hanging overhead, but the occasional ray of sunshine would break through to light the diamond. The Humboldt Dodgers AAA midget baseball team hosted the Moose Jaw Cardinals in a double header on July 21. This was to be one of the Dodgers' last games before playoffs in the Prairie Midget Baseball League (PMBL) started this week.Humboldt won the first game 5-1 and won the second game 5-1 to finish the season with two victories. The wins meant the team finished with a .500 win percentage, meeting the goal they set at the beginning of the season, explained coach Roger Gerwing. The team then competed in the AA Midget Provincial tournament in Prince Albert July 23-25. The Dodgers won all three of their round robin games in a decisive manner, keeping the other teams scoreless. Humboldt then won their semifinal match, but lost to Swift Current in the final."Swift Current played a flawless game," said Gerwing. "We had a couple of mistakes that cost us a couple of runs."Playoffs for the PMBL are set to start this week, but Gerwing had not yet received a schedule on July 26.
