Edam's Blaquiere part of Telus Cup championship team

Jared Blaquiere from Edam helped the Prince Albert Mintos win the Western Regional Championship in Prince Albert on April 6 with a 4-3 victory over the Notre Dame Argos. The Mintos went on to capture the Telus Cup in Moose Jaw April 27.

Jared Blaquiere from Edam helped the Prince Albert Mintos win the Western Regional Championship in Prince Albert on April 6 with a 4-3 victory over the Notre Dame Argos.

The Mintos went on to capture the Telus Cup in Moose Jaw April 27. Prince Albert was undefeated in the round robin, competing against teams from Ontario, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Quebec and the host team from Moose Jaw.

Prince Albert defeated the Okanogan Rockets of B.C. 6-3 in the semi-final. They went on to beat Chateguay, Que. 4-3 in triple overtime to win the Canadian National AAA Midget Championship. The final was the longest in Telus Cup history, surpassing the 2006 final in which Dustin Tokarski was the winning goaltender for Prince Albert.

The winning goal was scored by Dakota Boutin from Lance Yaremchuk and Blaquiere at 18:36 of the thirdovertime. The Mintos set a new record for the longest unbeaten streak at the Telus Cup in their third appearance with a 19-0-2 record.

Jared Blaquiere was also awarded Rookie of the Year for the 2013-14 season at the Mintos' awards banquet.
