Some of Western Canada's best fastball will be contested at the Flats in Battleford over the long weekend.
The Battleford Minor Softball Association will host the 2014 Western Canadian Under 18 Fastball Championships Aug. 1-4.
There are nine girls' teams in the tournament, including the host Battleford Midget Bandits, who recently finished in first place during the regular season of the Battlefords and District Ladies Fastball League. Eight boys' teams will also take the field, including a team from Ontario.
All of the teams in the tournament placed first or second in their provinces.
The event kicks off with a banquet and opening ceremonies at the Battleford Arena Aug. 1 beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $20. They can be ordered by calling Janet Campbell at 306-386-2326.
The games begin Aug. 1 at 8 a.m., with all being played at the Flats. One-day tickets are available for $6 at the gate, or weekend passes can be purchased for $15.
