The Battlefords North Stars announced Monday 20-year-old defenceman Dillon Forbes has committed to attend Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and play for the Trojans during the 2014-15 season.
Located in Calgary, Alta., the Trojans play in the Alberta College Athletics Conference. This past season, the Trojans defeated the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks on home ice to claim gold during the ACAC Championship series.
From the Battlefords, Forbes developed his skills in the Battlefords Minor Hockey Assocation system. Forbes' work ethic and willingness to compete propelled him from the minor hockey ranks to the Battlefords North Stars and onto college. During his three seasons with the North Stars, Forbes contributed 63 points in 181 games played and had more than 300 penalty minutes.
Forbes was named the team's most dedicated player this season and was also the co-winner of the North Stars' playoff most valuable player award.
"Dillon was a leader from the moment he stepped in our dressing room as a first year player," said North Stars coach and general manager Kevin Hasselberg. "The leadership qualities Dillon displayed were very passionate and from the heart. Through years of playing the game the right way, Dillon held players accountable and made life miserable on the opposition."
"On behalf of the Battlefords North Stars, we would like to congratulate Dillon and the entire Forbes family for this accomplishment," said office and marketing manager Trent Cey in a press release. "We wish continued success to Dillon as he continues to pursue his athletic and academic goals."
