Hasselberg to coach in Under 17

The Battlefords North Stars announced the team's head coach and general manager Kevin Hasselberg has been selected as an assistant coach for Team West in the 2014 World Under 17 Tournament in Cape Breton, N.S., Dec. 28 to Jan. 5.

Battlefords North Stars head coach Kevin Hasselberg will find himself behind the bench of Team West in the 2014 World Under 17 Tournament in Cape Breton, N.S. in December as an assistant coach.

The Battlefords North Stars announced the team's head coach and general manager Kevin Hasselberg has been selected as an assistant coach for Team West in the 2014 World Under 17 Tournament in Cape Breton, N.S., Dec. 28 to Jan. 5.

Hasselberg is preparing for his third season with the Battlefords North Stars after serving as an assistant and a head coach with the Olds Grizzlies of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He was also an assistant coach with the British Columbia Hockey League's Alberni Valley Bulldogs for one season.

Hasselberg has experience at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, where he served as an assistant coach with Team Pacific in 2010 at the event in Timmons, Ont.

He has a regular season record of 67-36-2-7 with the Battlefords North Stars since coming to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, which is the third highest win total of any team during that span.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to represent Team West during the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge," said Hasselberg. "It's a tremendous opportunity to learn from a great staff and work with the best players from Saskatchewan and Manitoba."

Joining Hasselberg on the coaching staff will be head coach Malcolm Cameron, who is returning to the team for the second consecutive season. Cameron is an assistant coach with the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats.

Alongside Hasselberg as assistant coaches are Josh Dixon, from the Regina Pats and Barrett Leganchuk, who will be responsible for video. Leganchuk served as the assistant video coach and video scout for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League.

Brent Zelenwich, from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL, will serve as Team West's goaltending coach. Saskatchewan Hockey Association's Nicole Renneberg will join the team for her third season as the athletic therapist. Jamie Leblanc of the WHL's Swift Current Broncos will serve as the equipment manager.
