The Beaver Blues beat Cut Knife in their home opener Friday, which included a jersey retirement for Mike Whitwell and some kind words from his former teammates.

That momentum carried to Wednesday when the Beaver Blues beat Glaslyn in Battleford to move to 2-0-0 this season.

Saulteaux also played twice on the weekend and earned their first win, an 8-6 victory over Hafford. Shane Gopher led the offence with two goals and two assists while Jean Fauchon earned the win in net.

The next night, Maymont beat Saulteaux, as Kyle Litchenwald scored four goals and mark Kelloway, Mark Melrose, Aaron Parker, Kinley Sevick and Stacey Wandler scored single goals for Maymont. Quentin Swiftwolfe had a hat trick for Saulteaux in the loss.

It will be a busy week in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League, as there are two games scheduled for Friday night, three for Saturday and two more Tuesday.
