John Paul II Collegiate held their annual award banquet for the Crusader football season.

The honours that were dished out ranged from junior to senior awards.

For Grades 9 to 10: Most Promising Jr. Offensive Player, Most Promising Jr. Defensive Player and top Jr. Lineman.

For Grade 11 to 12: Top Offensive Lineman, Top Defensive Lineman, Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, Top Offensive Player, Top Defensive Player, Most Dedicated, M.V.P and the Crusader award.

The evening started with the players, coaches and families getting together to enjoy a catered dinner.

After a recap of the year, coupled with video highlights of the season, Coach Shaun Loeppky spoke about the junior program and how well the campaign went in 2015.

Loeppky also said he was excited for the future and is looking forward to having many of the young players join the senior team for the upcoming year.

Head Coach of the senior football Crusaders, Bruce Yockey, then spoke about their season.

“It was a very good year as the team finished league play with a record of 4-3. It was exciting to play on the new home field at JP II.” He said.

Instead of renting out Beaver Lions Stadium for home games, the Crusaders found themselves playing just outside of their school. The construction of the field not only built support for the team and school spirit, but it also helped the school out financially.

The Crusaders went on to win their first two rounds of playoffs with victories over Meadow Lake and Esterhazy.

Unfortunately, the season ended in the provincial semifinals with a loss in Melfort.

Coach Yockey also spoke about each of the graduating players, thanking them for their commitment and time dedicated to the strong football program.

He also thanked the surrounding support the team received and the volunteer hours put in. Mrs. Fuhr, Mrs. Stynsky and the cheer team were noticed for everything they did to make home games enjoyable for the players and the fans.
