Woody Klassen has been back in the Battlefords for just nine games and has six goals and five assists since rejoining the team. That effort has helped Klassen become an honourable mention for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's defenceman of the week.
Klassen was an honourable mention the week prior and it appears it is only a matter of time before he gets the weekly award.
Weyburn's Ryan Whitell was the defenceman of the month while Estevan's Austin Yano, Yorkton's Keven Cann and Weyburn's Jens Johnson were honourable mentions.
The goaltender of the week was Warren Shymko of Yorkton. He won both his starts and posted a .938 save-percentage.
Battlefords' Connor Creech and Graham Hildebrand were both honourable mentions. The duo sits one and two in the league in goals-against average (Creech 2.37, Hildebrand 2.42) and Hildebrand leads the league in save percentage.
Davis Jones of Nipawin and Jesse Wilkins of Melfort were the other honourable mentions for the goaltender category.
The player of the week was Zak Majkowski of Yorkton. He produced the most points of anyone in the league last week earning three goals and four assists in three games. La Ronge's Louis-Joseph Sawyer, Humboldt's Andrew Johnston, Yorkton's Tayler Thompson and Melville's Russell Trudeau were honourable mentions.
The North Stars continue to hold strong in the CJHL's top 20 weekly rankings, as they stayed in the fifth spot on the chart. For the first time in nearly six weeks there was another SJHL team in the rankings. The Weyburn Red Wings made their first appearance on the list at number 17 while Humboldt earned an honourable mention.
Other news from the SJHL is that this will be the final season of the Anavet Cup. The Anavet Cup has been awarded after a best-of-seven series between the SJHL and MJHL champions since 1971. The winner of series earned a spot at the Royal Bank Cup.
No longer will there be a series, but two teams will advance from the western leagues after a championship tournament similar to the format of the RBC. There will be a host team and one representative from the SJHL, MJHL, AJHL and BCHL.
The 1999-2000 North Stars were the only Battlefords team to compete in, and win, the Anavet Cup.
