The Lashburn Senior Lady Lobos basketball team have started their season.
Coach Dave Pero says he is looking forward to a competitive season with seven returning players and two rookies.
The team has nine tournaments lined up before playoffs roll around in March. The first tournament of the season was last weekend in North Battleford. Other tournaments include Central Butte, Langham, Kinistino, Davidson, Meath Park, Middle Lake and the Lobos' home tournament.
Pero says the girls are looking forward to playing in the fifth annual alumni game Dec. 20. It is a fun game where they get a chance to compete against players who have gone through the program before them.
According to the coach one of the highlights of the season is going to be the Pink Game at the Lady Lobos' home tournament Dec. 12. The host team will play Marwayne, Alta. in a game intended to raise awareness about women's cancers and funds to fight these diseases. Last season's game raised $2,700 through contributions and a silent auction.
Pero says the team is hoping to surpass that amount this year. Anyone wishing to contribute to the silent auction or donate to the case can call Pero at 306-285-3505.
