It was a busy week in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League and the Maymont Settlers took advantage of the busy schedule winning all three of their games, moving to the top of the standings.

The Settlers played in Cut Knife Friday and earned the 5-2 win. Shane Chicoine earned the win while Colby Beierle scored twice and Sheldon Tebay, Kyle Litchenwald and Kenton Albert added singles. Jesse MacDonald was in net for the Colts.

The next night, the Settlers were in Radisson for their official home opener. It was what fans have come to expect from these two close rivals, a close game with Maymont skating away with the 4-3 win. Matt Leitner was in net this time for the Settlers while Nathan Wurst was solid in the Radisson net. Beierle, Reegan Johnston, Stacey Wandler and Kinly Sevick scored for the Settlers while the home team's offence came from Kelly Cronin, Dana Derbowka and Troy Rookes.

The Settlers made it a perfect week with a Tuesday night win on home ice against Glaslyn. The game was highlighted by a tic-tac-toe passing play for the Settlers on a first period power play that started in their own end. After three more passes off the rush the Settlers scored their second goal of the game and skated to a 6-3 win.

Albert had a four-point effort with one goal while Beierle had two goals, Marcus Large, Litchenwald and Stacey Wandler had the other Maymont goals. Chicoine earned the win in the Maymont net.

Ashton Dymytryshyn, Colin Pylypow and John Wood had the goals for Glaslyn, as Yves Giroux was saddle with the loss. Giroux was injured in the third period and relieved by Cameron Simkins, who was solid, but it wasn't enough for Glaslyn to get back in the game.

Maymont is 4-0-0-0 on the season while Perdue is close behind with a 3-0-0-0 record. The Pirates had just one game last week, as they doubled up on Cut Knife 8-4 in a game played in Biggar.

Jeff Ebel led the way with two goal and two assists while Ryan Chaben, Carret Poletz, Ryan Robalard, Keaton Silvernagle and Keegan Urick were the other goal scorers. Bye Braun scored twice for Cut Knife while Justin Kelly and Jordan Noble had singles.

Cut Knife recovered from the loss to Perdue by beating Saulteaux 6-4 Tuesday in Cut Knife. The Colts improved to 2-4-0-0 on the season.

The other two games on the weekend included Hafford losing twice by one goal, first Friday to Radisson 5-4 and Saturday Glaslyn edged Hafford 4-3.

Friday in Radisson, Riley Dowdswell, Jonathan McIntosh, Frankie Moosomin, Joey Mychan and Andrew Peeyachew scored for Radisson while Hafford responded with goals from Brandon Halliwell, Scott Lange, Greg Shury and Dakota Tootoosis.

Halliwell also found the back of the net Saturday against Glaslyn as did Darren Poitras and Pat Gauthier, but two goals by Colin Pylypow led the Glaslyn North Stars to their second win of the season.

Hafford remain the only team still winless on the season.

Leading up to the Christmas break, the SPHL has eight games scheduled from Friday to Wednesday, meaning the standings could drastically change by next week's report.
