The Meadow Lake Stampeders used a six-goal second period to beat the Paradise Hill Hawks 11-4 Saturday night in the NSRHL's season opener in Meadow Lake.
Both teams scored twice in the first period, but Stampeders took control in the second period. They outscored the Hawks 6-1 in the middle frame. Meadow Lake cleaned up the game with a three-goal third period.
DJ King led the way for the Stampeders with two goals and four assists. Ashton McIntyre had a hat trick and picked up an assist. Jarret Aschenbrenner registered two goals and two assists. Darren Caron, Chad Crookedneck Scott Fransky and Logan Pethick each had a goal in Meadow Lake's win. Jeff Vidal was the winning goalie for the Stampeders.
Logan Harland, Jamie Jeanotte, Riley Macnab and Derricl Oliver provided the Hawks' offence. They each scored a goal in the loss. Joe Brown took the loss in net for Paradise Hill.
There are two games in the NSRHL this weekend. The Maidstone Jets head to Paradise Hill to take on the Hawks Friday night. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
Saturday night's action sees the St. Walburg Eagles, last year's finalist, visit Meadow Lake to face off with the Stampeders. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m.
