It was a terrific weekend for Humboldt Minor Ball as they sent two teams to provincials and came home with a pair of medals, July 14-16.

Mosquito AAA

The Mosquito AAA Dodgers traveled to Regina to compete in the Mosquito AAA Provincial Championships.

The Dodgers rolled through the early portion of the round robin as they beat up on the Sask Five Giants Sluggers 13-3, the Estevan Sluggers 15-2, and the Saskatoon Dodgers A’s 16-13.

The trio of wins left the Dodgers with a perfect 3-0 record, and guaranteed them a spot in the semi-finals with just one game remaining.

With the semi-final spot locked up the Dodgers took their foot off the gas against the Saskatoon Blue Jay Screwballs and it cost them as they were routed 11-1.

The loss left the Dodgers with the fourth best record in the tournament, and was just enough to qualify them for the semi-finals where they took on the top team in Pool C, the Regina White Sox.

The game was a tight contest between two evenly matched teams, but the Dodgers made just enough plays to come away victorious as they pulled out an 8-7 win.

The win moved the Dodgers into the championship game, where they took on the Screwballs in a rematch of their final round robin contest.

The Dodgers came out looking for revenge and exacted it in emphatic fashion.

The Dodgers offense was clicking right along in the final as they piled up 14 runs in a dominant 14-1 win, giving the Dodgers the Mosquito AAA provincial title.

Bantam AA

The Bantam AA Dodgers traveled to Regina to compete in the Bantam AA Tier 3 Provincial Championships.

The Dodgers opened their tournament with a dominant win over the Saskatoon Bad News Braves 16-6, but could not keep the momentum up in their next game as they fell 7-6 to the Macklin Lakers.

Needing to win out to have a chance at making the semi-finals the Dodgers came through as they knocked off the Regina Blue Jays 8-7, and the Regina Pacers 14-2.

Their 3-1 record left the Dodgers in a three-way tie for first place in Pool B, and sent the Dodgers into a tiebreaking game against the Blue Jays.

After already beating the Blue Jays once the Dodgers came into the game with the momentum and carried it through the game, knocking off the Blue Jays 10-4.

The win moved the Dodgers into the semi-finals where they took on the Regina Buffalos.

Offense was once again the story for the Dodgers as they piled up 11 runs en route to a dominant 11-2 win, moving the Dodgers into the final.

In the final the Dodgers had a rematch against the Lakers following a similar script to their round robin contest. The game was decided by one run, with the same team emerging victorious as the Lakers snuck away with a 9-8 win, giving the Dodgers the provincial silver medal.

Other teams

Humboldt Minor Ball will look to continue their successful provincial season this coming weekend, July 21-23, as the Peewee AA Dodgers will travel to Weyburn for the eight-team Peewee AA Tier 1 Provincial Championships.
