An annual event is hoping for sunshine and dry conditions next weekend.

The 10th annual LVW Baseball tournament in Muenster is set for June 26-27.

The Muenster Red Sox, the host team, has brought in six teams for the tournament, explained Jim Korte, Muenster head coach.

The teams competing at the tournament include the Marysburg Royals, the Holdfast Trappers, the Legal Indians from Alberta, the Edmonton Blackhawks and the Estevan Wolves.

Marysburg, Holdfast and Legal are in one pool, while Muenster, Edmonton, and Estevan are in the other pool.

The B final on June 27 will see the second place teams in each pool, while the A final later in the day will see the top team in each pool face off.

This tournament has the largest cash payout in western Canada, Korte noted, with the first place team collecting $2,000.

This year's tournament has a few different teams than previous years, Korte noted.

"We have different teams because if the Saskatoon teams do not desire to have us in their league, we do not want them in our tournament," he said. "We're really happy to have two teams from Alberta in our tournament. As well, Holdfast is last year's provincial Senior champions."

Muenster played in the Saskatoon Senior Baseball League (SSBL) for a couple of years after the North Central Baseball League (NCBL) disbanded. Last year, Muenster played in a Midget AAA league, but applied to rejoin the SSBL this year. Their application was denied.

Muenster has been practising when the weather and diamond conditions permit, but have had three games cancelled because of rain, Korte said.

The team plans to use this tournament to gear up for 2010 Western Canadian Senior AA Championships August 12-15 in Muenster.
