Students at École Père Mercure school were on hand for the unveiling of their new outdoor basketball court. Mayor Ian Hamilton was on hand to cut the ribbon to officially open the new court Friday, but students did not even wait for the ribbon-cutting to try out their hoop-shooting abilities on the new asphalt half-court.
According to principal Miles Muri, the new court was something the students had been requesting for a while. The project was spearheaded by the parents association who raised funds on their own and also received community grants through SaskLotteries. The court is welcomed by teachers and parents as a way to promote exercise and physical fitness as well as provide students an opportunity to be outside during the day.
