Brenden Heinrich scored the winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Battlefords North Stars a 3-2 win over the defending SJHL champion Yorkton Terriers.

It was the first win of the season and first of four straight games on the road for the North Stars.

The North Stars had the perfect start to Tuesday night's game for a road team. Heinrich found the back of the net for the first time this season 12 seconds into the first period, beating Yorkton netminder Dawson MacAuley. Ryne Keller picked up the lone assist on the goal.

Later in the first, the North Stars used the power play to extend their lead. With Dylan Bowen in the box for kneeing, Jordan Townsend scored his first goal of the season 6:41 into the frame with an assist from Brock Weston.

In the second period, the Terriers cut the lead in half with a power play of their own. Townsend was sent off for slashing 8:24 into the period. Terriers forward Kurt Johnas beat Spencer Tremblay for his third goal of the year 9:40 into the second.

The North Stars held onto their 2-1 lead until there was eight minutes left in the third period. Brandon Sookro tallied his first goal of the season, putting the puck past Tremblay with an assist from Dallas Rossiter. The goal sent the game to overtime tied at two.

In the extra frame, the Terriers outshot the North Stars 3-1, but no team found the back of the net.

Yorkton shot first in the shootout. In the first round, Yorkton's Dylan Johnson and Battlefords' Matthew Havens were both stopped. Riley Hunt scored for the Terriers on the first shot of the second round. After both goalies made saves, Reed Delainey's goal kept the North Stars alive in the third round. Tremblay stopped Tyson Enzie in the fourth round. Heinrich beat MacAuley to give the North Stars the victory.

Tremblay made 30 saves in regulation and overtime en route to his first career SJHL win. MacAuley stopped 33 shots in a losing effort.

The North Stars (1-1-1-0) continue their road trip Wednesday night in Melville when they take on the undefeated Millionaires.
