Flin Flon is now in a position to win the series in game six Sunday.

THE BATTLEFORDS - The Flin Flon Bombers have grabbed the lead in their series with the Battlefords North Stars.

The Bombers beat the North Stars 3-1 on Friday, forcing the North Stars into a must-win situation Sunday in Flin Flon in order to force a Game Seven on Tuesday.

It seemed as if the Bombers had control of the play through most of the game. Despite a good effort in the third period the North Stars were in too big a hole to mount a comeback on this night.

Flin Flon opened the scoring in the first period at the 13:37 mark from Gabriel Shipper, with Cory King and Jaxon Martens assisting.

Shipper added another goal at the 14:40 mark of period two, with Jaxon Martens and Zak Smith assisting.

Brett Wieschorster scored unassisted at the 5:16 mark to extend the Bomber lead to three goals.

The North Stars finally showed signs of life in the latter half of the third period as Keiton Klein scored from Matthew Henry at 12:23. But that would be all for the home team on the night.

Once again, Cal Schell got the win for the Bombers while Michael Harroch took the loss.

It was the third straight win for the Bombers after opening the series with two losses. For the fifth straight game, the Bombers outshot the North Stars, this time by a 45-30 margin.

The North Stars will need to figure out how to turn things around against the Bombers, and quickly, on Sunday night.
