Prior to the puck drop of the Battlefords North Stars' game Tuesday night against La Ronge, North Stars board members who were in attendance went on the ice for a special presentation to thank a long-time supporter of the Battlefords North Stars.
Cheri Lynch has served as a board member, billet, treasurer, scorekeeper, time keeper and volunteer for the North Stars since the mid 1990s.
Lynch has developed some strong relationships with board members, staff and players alike over her time, especially those players who frequented the penalty box often.
Along with her reputation around the team, Lynch has developed a great reputation around the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, which she has also worked for years.
Many officials who come to work games at the Civic Centre know they will be well taken care of. Lynch has brushed up on the all the rules, knows what needs to be reported on the game sheets and how to run the penalty box and score sheet like a pro. In fact, she has made such a strong impact on the officials that in her second last game in the Battlefords, some senior official gave her a special pink referee jersey to show their appreciation for her.
Lynch now has the motor home packed as she is ready to head out on a new chapter of her life and enjoy the warm weather down south. Lynch will surely be following the North Stars via the radio broadcasts and online information and has requested that when she returns to the Battlefords in April that she can come back to the rink and watch playoff hockey.
Tuesday, Lynch was made an honorary lifetime member of the Battlefords North Stars. She also received a signed jersey from the team and a gift basket for her many years of service to the North Stars.
