The first annual SJHL bantam draft took place Thursday morning, with each team in the league given six picks to begin.
The Battlefords North Stars had the sixth overall pick and used it to draft defenseman Jake Koroluk out of the Prince Albert Venice House Raiders.
Koroluk scored four goals and added nine assists in 28 games last season.
In the second round, the North Stars selected forward Kaden Boser who spent last season with the Saskatoon Stallions, scoring 11 goals with 14 assists in 30 games.
The North Stars didn’t have a third round selection, as they had previously traded it to the Nipawin Hawks.
With their fourth round pick, the North Stars drafted forward Ty Muench who was teammates with Boser. He scored 22 goals and added 10 assists in 31 games last season.
In the fifth round the North Star elected to get some goaltending depth, as they drafted Tyson Byman. He played for the Yorkton Terriers bantam team last year, and went undefeated with a 12-0 record while posting two shut outs and a 2.19 goals against average.
With their final selection the North Stars drafted another defenceman, Logan Fritzke, who played with the Swift Current Kabos Raiders last season. He recorded four goals and 10 assists in 28 games for a Swift Current team that won just three of 31 games last year.
A different local connection saw Battlefords Barons forward Ty Mossimann drafted second overall to the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Mosimann recorded 36 goals and 35 assists for the Barons in 31 games last season, yet was undrafted into the Western Hockey League.
