The Battlefords North Stars (22-14-6-1) played two home games in front of their parents and billets as part of parents and billets weekend, picking up a win and a loss.
The parents of almost all the players were on hand to see their boys win 6-3 against the Estevan Bruins (17-21-1-6) Friday, and drop a 4-2 game to the Nipawin Hawks (26-12-2-3) Saturday.
Friday, Jake McMillen and Jordan Townsend each had a pair of goals while Bryce Hall scored his first career SJHL goal to help the North Stars to victory.
Matty Saharchuk had a goal and two assists during the victory, in which the North Stars controlled the majority of play over the course of the game.
The Bruins scored first, when Ryan Duret deflected a pass with one hand on his stick through the legs of Spencer Tremblay halfway through the period.
Less than two minutes later Saharchuk scored his 15th of the year to tie the game and in the final minutes of the period McMillen deflected a one-timer from Igor Leonenko past Tyler Gutenberg on the power play to give the North Stars a 2-1 lead after one period.
Bruins leading scorer Keegan Allison tied the game six minutes into the second when on the power play he cut the middle before firing a wrist shot over the blocker of Tremblay.
Once again the North Stars answered quickly.
A Connor Sych point shot went off a Bruins defenceman in front of the net and landed on the stick of McMillen, who managed to sweep the puck into the open cage as he tripped over the goaltender.
Townsend extended the lead when he took a pass from Hall and rifled a shot past the blocker of Gutenberg for his first of two.
The North Stars added two more goals in the third period for the 6-3 final.
Saturday was a different story.
It was the Hawks who jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 10:41 into the game, which spelled the end of the night for Ryan Rewerts.
Tremblay took over in goal and played solid for the rest of the game, making 16 saves in relief.
Down 3-0 after the first period, the North Stars came out of the gates in the second period looking like a completely different team.
They controlled the puck well, got traffic in front of Hawks goaltender Joe O'Brien and had a number of quality scoring chances for the rest of the game.
Five and a half minutes after Nipawin scored to make it 4-0, Saharchuk scored his second goal in as many nights.
He deked around a defenceman in the slot, before pulling the puck from his backhand to the forehand and sliding it past O'Brien to give the North Stars some life.
After being outshot 13-11 in the first, the North Stars outshot the Hawks 15-8 in the second.
Battlefords continued their strong play in the third period, but were unable to solve O'Brien until late in the frame.
Leonenko jumped on a rebound and jammed it home on the power play with just 27 seconds to play.
Unable to find the back of the net again, the North Stars dropped the 4-2 decision.
They now take to the road as they head to Humboldt to take on the Broncos (16-21-4-0) Wednesday.
