North Stars trade brings in two players

The Battlefords North Stars were busy doing some deals this past Wednesday. At the end of it all they were able to announce they had acquired 20-year-old defenceman Jordan Wiest and 18-year-old forward Connor Navrot.

The Battlefords North Stars were busy doing some deals this past Wednesday.

At the end of it all they were able to announce they had acquired 20-year-old defenceman Jordan Wiest and 18-year-old forward Connor Navrot.

In exchange, the North Stars give up Brock Weston and Connor Vermeulen in a deal that involved three separate transactions and five different teams in three leagues.

Wiest’s rights had recently been acquired by the Portage Terriers from the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL, and he also played two seasons with the Calgary Canucks. He’s played 103 junior games and has four goals and 19 points.

To acquire Wiest, the North Stars sent another 20-year-old, defenceman Brock Weston, to the Terriers. In a news release the North Stars Weston for his contributions to the team last season.

The North Stars have also acquired rights to power forward Connor Navrot, a Martensville product who had just completed a second season with Beardy’s Blackhawks of the Sask AAA Midget Hockey League. He scored 18 goals and notched 23 assists for the Blackhawks and also played 13 games for the Kindersley Klippers, including eight playoff games as an affiliate player.

To acquire him, the North Stars made a deal involving three different teams. They sent Vermeulen to the Whitecourt Wolverines in exchange for rights to Carson Pickett and future considerations. They then dealt Pickett to the Klippers in exchange for rights to Navrot.

Vermeulen had scored two goals and notched 14 assists for the North Stars last season. The North Stars issued a statement thanking him and wishing him continued success with Whitecourt.

The North Stars continue their preparations for the coming SJHL campaign. A season ticket drive is under way and their Fall Camp for new and returning players begins Sunday, August 30.
