NSRBL name team MVPs, wrap up regular season

Most valuable players from each of the 12 NSRBL teams were announced Monday.

Jason Fechter from the Border City Blue Jays, Kelly Baillargeon of the Edam Blue Sox, Quincey Walker from the Meadow Lake Sox, Cory Wildeman of the Unity Cardinals, the Macklin Lakers' Sean Carrick, Chris Osmack from the Lloydminster Twins, the Mervin Flyers' Jonny Conacher, Nick Pernitsky of the Midwest Expos, the North Battleford Beavers' David Millar, Scott Thompson of the St. Walburg Reds and Dylan Kuffner from the Standard Hill Lakers all received recognition from the league.

In league action, the Wilkie Brewers continued their streaky play July 9. The Brewers edged the Edam Blue Sox 2-1 at home. David Schell pitched a complete game one hitter for the Brewers, surrendering just one run. Damon Schaefer was a one-man team for the Blue Sox. He drove in his team's lone run and scattered seven hits over six innings.

Border City tried to keep pace with the league's top teams with a 6-0 win over the Standard Hill Lakers July 9. Landon Noyes went 2 for 4 on the evening, with a home run and four RBIs.

Also July 9, the Midwest Expos downed the Unity Cardinals 13-3.

The Lloydminster Twins took sole possession of first place with an 8-1 win Thursday, July 10 over the Standard Hill Lakers.

Also Thursday night, the Unity Cardinals shut out the Macklin Lakers 9-0. Wildeman went 2 for 4 with a walk and two RBIs for the Cardinals. He also pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just one hit and striking out eight Lakers. Mark Ralston, Tyler Gilbert and Trace Sperle also drove in two runs each for the Cardinals.

There were two more games July 10. The St. Walburg Reds edged the Border City Blue Jays 6-5 and the North Battleford Beavers downed the Mervin Flyers 10-6.

Two games wrapped up the regular season Monday night. In Mervin, the Flyers beat the Wilkie Brewers 8-5. The Midwest Expos edged the Unity Cardinals 5-4.

The Lloydminster Twins (12-1-1) finish the regular season on top of the NSRBL, a half-game above the Meadow Lake Sox (12-2). Border City (10-4) took home third place.

The Midwest Expos and Unity Cardinals had matching 8-6 records, placing the teams into a fourth-place tie. The North Battleford Beavers (7-7) finished in the top half of the league, placing sixth. The Wilkie Brewers (6-7-1) ended the year in seventh place.

Mervin (4-9) finishes the year in eight spot. There was a three-way tie for ninth with records of 4-10 between St. Walburg, Edam and Macklin. The Standard Hill Lakers (3-11), losers of six straight, finished the year in the league's basement.
