Brady O'Sullivan scored with 13 seconds left to give the Battlefords North Stars a 4-3 win over the Klippers Tuesday night in Kindersley.
The North Stars have won four of their last five games. It also snapped the Klippers' five-game winning streak.
It was a quick start for the North Stars' offence. Matthew Havens got his first SJHL goal 2:26 into the first period when he beat Klippers goaltender Evan Weninger. Michael Statchuk registered an assist on the goal.
Midway through the first, the North Stars made it a 2-0 game. Jake McMillen scored his third goal of the season with 8:17 left in the frame. Havens and Brenden Heinrich were given assists on the play.
Before the end of the first, Jordan Townsend scored to give the North Stars a 3-0 lead. With 2:50 left, he put the puck past Weninger. Jackson Bond and Nick Fountain picked up assists.
The North Stars controlled play throughout the first period. They outshot the Klippers 20-6 in the period. Battlefords also chased Weninger from the net after he allowed three goals in the opening period.
Kindersley came out firing in the second period, but North Stars goalie Ryan Rewerts was up to the challenge. Rewerts stopped all 17 shots faced in the period.
In the third, the Klippers began their comeback. Owen LaClare got Kindersley on the board 8:44 into the frame. Less than two minutes later, Connor Garden made it a 3-2 game with 9:21 to play in regulation. Then, with 2:23 to go, LaClare scored his second of the game and seventh of the season to tie the game at three.
The Klippers took a penalty with 1:33 left in regulation. The North Stars took advantage when O'Sullivan beat backup goaltender Nathan Hargrave to win the game. Reed Delainey assisted on O'Sullivan's fifth goal of the year.
Rewerts stopped 37 shots to pick up his second win of the season. Hargrave made 16 saves in relief for the Klippers.
The North Stars (8-2-3-0) have a week off until their next game, an Oct. 30 date with the Kindersley Klippers at the Civic Centre. It will be the sixth matchup between the two teams in the first six weeks of the season. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
