The Marysburg Royals took on the Saskatoon Stallions in a doubleheader on June 3.
They knew it was going to be a tough day as the Stallions are always tough, but they came ready to play. Colin Bauml started on the mound in the first game and was outstanding. He only gave up one hit while throwing a complete game which Marysburg won 1-0. The Royals got the run in the bottom of the seventh after getting the first two guys on and then scoring on a Stallions error.
The Royals did make a couple errors behind Bauml but he pitched out of it. They managed five hits with Curtis Strueby leading the way with two. Bauml really had the Stallions off balance all game. He continued to prove that he has become one of the top senior baseball pitchers in the province. Every time he goes to the mound he gives the Royals a great chance to win.
Bevin Ledingham started on the mound in the second game. Bevin threw a really good three and two thirds innings before giving way to Paul Strueby.
Paul Strueby threw well the rest of the game and the defence only made one error behind him as the Royals won the game 6-4. The bats were solid as they had nine hits with Curtis Strueby leading the way with three and a pair of runs batted in.
The Royals played another really solid day of ball. They had to battle hard to get both wins. The Stallions always play tough and this weekend was no different. Pitching was really good and the defence and hitting were solid all day.
The Royals are now 4-1 on the year and sit in third place in the league.
"It was nice to play two good games today in front of a pretty large crowd," said Curtis Strueby. "It's always fun to play when a lot of people come out and watch. "
The Royals next games are June 10 at 1 p.m. against the Saskatoon Diggers. Once again the Royals are going to have to play well as the Diggers have started strong with a 5-1 record.
