They got in two wins before the rains came.
The Marysburg Royals faced off against the Saskatoon Blue Jays in Saskatoon Senior Baseball League action in Marysburg on an overcast May 27, and scored two wins in the doubleheader before rain started to fall.
The first game saw the Royals win by a score of 6-2. Colin Bauml got the complete game win from the mound.
"Our bats were really solid, as we had 10 hits in the win," reported Royal Curtis Strueby.
Brent Puetz had a home run and batted in four runs in the game.
"Colin Bauml pitched a very good game and we only made one error behind him," Strueby noted.
The second game saw the Royals win by a score of 9-3.
"Dean Jaeb threw six very good innings to get the win for us, and Braden Bauml led the attack with three hits including a home run," Strueby said.
Jordan Gerwing also had four hits and three runs batted in for the Royals, who had 12 hits as a team and didn't make any errors defensively.
"We had a really good day," Strueby said afterwards of their first home games of the season.
"It was tough playing, as the weather was really nasty. However, we got it in. Our pitchers really battled hard for us."
Both Bauml and Jaeb look strong despite it being so early in the season, he added, and the fact that their defence has been solid this early as well is really good to see.
"All the guys contributed offensively, as well," he noted. "It truly was a good team effort, which is good to see."
It's been a tough year for baseball so far, as the weather has not cooperated. These games were only the Royals' second and third of the year. But they're doing well, winning two of the three.
"We have played really well all three games we have played, so that's good to see," Strueby said. "The young guys we have added have really contributed, which is always a plus."
The Royals play at home next Sunday in Marysburg once again, this time against the always tough Saskatoon Stallions. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
