After defeating Calgary to finish off their three-game homestand, the Saskatchewan Rush travelled to Colorado for their second game of the season against the Mammoth.
The Rush jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but it was five unanswered marks in the third quarter that led them to a 9-7 loss.
Dillon Ward made a huge impact for Colorado, stopping 47 of 54 shots, snapping the two-game winning streak for Saskatchewan.
With the win, the Mammoth now move into first place in the West division.
Jarrett Davis got the Rush on the board with his second of the year before second-leading scorer Zack Greer took a pass from Robert Church to give Saskatchewan a 2-0 lead.
The Mammoth rattled off three tallies, but Mark Matthews and Curtis Knight restored the lead as the first half buzzer sounded.
Colorado came out of the half a different team, depositing five goals into the back of the net.
A pair of power play goals from Ben McIntosh and Robert Church cut the deficit to two, while Davis’ second of the game brought the Rush within striking distance.
Eli McLaughlin sealed the deal with eight minutes left, giving Colorado their sixth win of the season.
Church had a huge game for the Rush, putting together a five-point game with a goal and four assists.
Aaron Bold stopped 25 of 34 shots from the Mammoth.
The Rush travel to Rochester Friday to take on the third place Knighthawks.
