The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame is proud to announce the induction of Bob Armstrong of Saskatoon into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, Individual Category, as a player/builder Saturday, Aug. 15 in Battleford.
In 1982, Armstrong was a founding member of a group that eventually became the Saskatoon Sportsmen Baseball Club and competed in the Saskatoon Men’s Baseball League from 1982 to 2003. He was both the primary catcher and the business manager for the team.
From 1987 to the present he has competed with the Saskatoon Sportsmen Team or as a pick up player in various Saskatchewan Twilite Tournaments, winning several titles. He was a member of the first Saskatchewan Team in 1990 to win the Western Canadian Twilite Tournament held in Kindersley, again being the primary catcher and business manager for the team.
Armstrong also was a member of the team[s] that represented Saskatchewan and, or Canada in 1993, 1995, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009 at the Senior Men’s World Series held annually in Phoenix, Arizona. This culminated in a 65+ Division Championship ring in 2008 as a member of the 7-0 Red Deer Snowbirds, catching 27 innings and hitting .518.
More recently he was recruited by the San Diego Mudcats team for the Senior Men’s World Series in Phoenix in 2013 and 2014, catching 36 and 20 innings respectively as well as 15 innings at third base, hitting for a combined average of over .450.
As a builder, Armstrong was the coach for the Saskatoon Minor Baseball Bantam Cardinals and Midget Royals 1985 to 1989.
As well, Armstrong was Assistant coach with the Saskatoon Inner City baseball program 2009 to 2013.
Community involvement includes a number of sports and church organizations
Armstrong continues to live in Saskatoon.
