Soccer regionals took place across the province on the weekend and four schools from the Northwest made it through their regional tournaments and are set for provincials this weekend.

John Paul II hosted the 2A boys' and girls' regional draws. The boys, who were ranked first, had a bye to the semi finals. In the semis, a close game saw Warman hang on to a 2-1 win and the Crusaders failing to capitalize early. Dominik Keteles was the goal scorer for the Crusaders in the loss.

Despite the loss, John Paul II advances to provincials, which will begin Friday in Yorkton.

On the girls' side of the 2A draw, John Paul II beat Meadow Lake in the semi final game by a 3-1 score. Brooklyn Cockburn, Daeleen Albert and Deidra Fonda were the goal scorers for the home team.

In the final, John Paul II took on Holy Rosary and won 2-0. Daeleen and Nikki Boutin were the scorers this time for John Paul II, as the second seeded Crusaders upset Lloydminster in the final. The female Crusaders will be in Regina for provincials, as they left the Battleford Thursday and prepared for a Friday morning game. The girls have improved throughout the season, steadily finishing better in each tournament and earning their first championship medals at regionals.

The other North Battleford team in action last weekend were the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings 3A girls. The Vikings were in Prince Albert and in their only game lost to Prince Albert St. Mary 11-0.

At the rural level, Cando will look to defend their boys' 7 vs. 7 title in Moose Jaw this weekend. Cando will face Bruno in the semi final with the winner advancing to play either Stobart or Moose Jaw Riverview.

At regionals, Cando qualified for provincials with a 13-3 semi final win over Rosthern Junior College in Rosthern.

In the girls' 7 vs. 7 playoffs, Wilkie and Cando both played at the Constable Robin Cameron Education Complex in Duck Lake in the semi final. Both teams lost and failed to advance to provincials with Wilkie losing to Beardy's 7-1 and Delisle beating Cando 5-1.

At the 1A boys' level, Osler hosted and won their regional bracket. They won 5-2 the final over Chief Poundmaker, who will also advance to provincials and will be the host team for the tournament in North Battleford. Joining Osler and Chief Poundmaker will be Lake Lenore and Regina Christian.
