Settlers are 2-0 in SPHL action

For the first time in a few seasons the Maymont senior hockey team is 2-0. The Settlers played in Radisson Saturday and, with former Maymont Blues on both sides, the current Maymont team pulled out the 8-4 win.

Jeff Swain led the Settlers' offence with a hat trick. Kinley Sevick and Chris Beierle had a goal and two assists, Kenton Albert, Stacey Wandler and Regan Johnson had a goal and an assist and captain Mark Melrose was the other multi-point player picking up two assists.

On the Radisson side, the Wheat Kings hosted their first senior game since 1995. Because of that there was a buzz in the arena, as the local fans were excited to welcome back senior hockey. Captain Jade Boklaschuk scored twice, including a beautiful goal shorthanded in the third period. Dylan Yaremko and Joey Mychan had the other goals for the Wheat Kings. Ryan Blatchford, Shayn Dubyk and Kenton Haugrud had single assists.

One night earlier, the Settlers were in Battleford to play the Beaver Blues.

Jon Rose allowed six goals while Glen Heidt gave up two and the Beaver Blues lost 8-3.

Albert, Beierle, Sevick, Melrose, Wandler, Colby Beierle, Chad Bernier and Mark Kelloway scored for Maymont.

Mat Leitner was in net for Maymont win.

Devin Esquirol and Brett Michnik had a goal and an assist for Battleford while Lee Ulmer was the other goal scorer and Jon Kachur had an assist.

One other game scheduled for Saturday in Saulteaux was rescheduled for Dec. 21 against the Beaver Blues.
