The Battlefords AAA Sharks travelled to Edmonton last weekend to compete in the NAIT Ooks Women's Hockey 2014 Blue-Gold Tournament.

In their first game Friday afternoon, the Sharks fell 4-0 to the St. Albert Slash.

It was a quick turnaround for the Sharks as they played early Saturday morning. The Sharks dropped a 4-1 decision to the Rocky Mountain Raiders.

Their final game of the tournament was Sunday afternoon, losing 4-1 to the Peace Country Athletic Club.

The weekend also featured an intersquad game with players from the Ooks and graduating Midget AAA players. Playing in the game from the Sharks were Emily Wilson, Shauna Gerlinsky, Mikayla Phipps and Laura Harper.

Coach Ashley Blaquiere said despite having their team together just once before the tournament, the Sharks were able to hold their own against teams from Edmonton and the surrounding area that have spent much more time together.

Sharks manager Steph Gilchrist said via email the team is having trouble finding usable ice time in September as the team waits for the ice to be installed at the Battleford Arena, their home arena. So far they have only been offered ice time at 4 p.m., which is hard to make for out-of-town players who do not billet. Gilchrist added that in order for the team to turn the program around, the team needs necessary ice time and support from the community.

The Sharks open their exhibition schedule Sept. 18 in the Civic Centre at 7 p.m.
