Sharks shutout in Regina

The Battlefords AAA Sharks were hoping the New Year would bring new results for their team, but unfortunately that wasn't the case as they travelled to Regina on the weekend.

The Battlefords AAA Sharks were hoping the New Year would bring new results for their team, but unfortunately that wasn't the case as they travelled to Regina on the weekend.

The Sharks played the Rebels Saturday and Sunday and were shutout both games.

Saturday, the Sharks trailed 1-0 after the first and after giving up two powerplay goals and two even strength goals in the second they lost 5-0.

The Sharks were out shot 59-7, as Hannah Brock and Jacy Akre split the game. Brock make 31 saves while Akre stopped all 23 shots she faced.

The Rebels had five different goal scorers while going 2/6 on the powerplay.

Sunday, the Sharks did a great job cutting down on the number of shots allowed, but still suffered a 6-0 loss.

Regina scored on four of nine powerplay chances while the Sharks were 0/8.

Again, Brock and Akre split the game with Akre stopping 15 of 16 and Brock stopping 11 of 16.

The Sharks head to Swift Current Saturday and Sunday and their next home game will be Jan. 27 against Prince Albert.
