It wasn't the ultimate W that the Battlefords AAA Sharks have been searching for, but they did had two competitive games on the weekend against the Weyburn Gold Wings.

The Sharks appear to be buying into a new system and stayed close with one of the league's top teams.

The Sharks hold the eighth spot with a 0-10-0-0 record, but should be able to build on the fact they lost 8-1 and just 3-1 to the 10-2-1-0 Golden Wings in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action.

Saturday, despite allowing the first goal to the Sharks' Malory Roy nearly two minutes into the game, Weyburn controlled the play and built a lead after that point on. Roy's goal was her first in her rookie season.

It was all Weyburn after that as they out shot the Sharks 48-11. Sarah Spence led the Weyburn offence with four points, as they scored eight straight goals for the win.

Jacy Akre allowed seven goals on 45 shots while backup Rachel Mitchell stopped two of three shots in the game.

Sunday, again the Sharks scored first, as Delaney Ross broke in alone while shorthanded and deked to start the scoring. The goal was Ross's team leading third of the season.

Weyburn tied the game later in the first period on a power play and after 20 minutes the teams were tied 1-1.

Weyburn scored twice in the second period, once on a late power play and there was no scoring in the third period, despite the Sharks pulling their goalie for the extra attacker while on a two-man advantage power play late in the game.

Akre stopped 42 of 45 shots while Taelor Bayda made 25 of 26 saves in the win for Weyburn.

The Sharks' search for their first win will continue this weekend on home ice, as they host the Swift Current Wildcats. The Wildcats are 1-11-0-0 this season.
