Slow start for Midget Stars

The Battlefords Midget Stars officially started the second half of their season at the infamous Schroh Arena in Saskatoon against the Sasktoon Contacts Tuesday night.

The Battlefords Midget Stars officially started the second half of their season at the infamous Schroh Arena in Saskatoon against the Sasktoon Contacts Tuesday night.

The Stars fell into a deep hole early and couldn't recover losing 9-3 to the third place Contacts.

Just 1:20 into the first period, the Contacts scored their first goal. The second highest scoring team in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League went on to add the next eight goals to go up 9-0 with 8:25 remaining in the second period.

The Stars did get on the board with seven minutes left in the second frame, as Carter Danczak scored from Kihisis Derocher to break the Contacts' shutout bid. The goal was Danczak's team leading 10th goal of the season.

Minutes later, Jordaan Braun scored his sixth of the season shorthanded.

In the third period, Ashton Clark scored a power play goal from Austin Duzan for his second of the season.

Rylan Parenteau was the winning goalie making 24 saves for Saskatoon. The Stars used both Blair Mahon and Nigel Detbrenner-Rempel in net.

Saskatoon had the territorial advantage most of the game and were 3/7 on the power play while the Stars were 1/3.

Next on the schedule for the 3-20-0-0 Stars are games Saturday and Sunday in Tisdale against the 15-6-1-1 Trojans.
