Special Olympics Battlefords is proud to announce the accomplishments of a pair of local athletes during the 2014-2015 season.
Lindsay Reimer is a competitive swimmer and trains with the Orcas Swim Club and with Special Olympics Battlefords Swim Club. She has attended many competitions though out the year including meets in Saskatoon, Regina, Swift Current, Calgary, Vancouver and North Battleford in both the generic and Special Olympic categories. She has had many personal bests, ribbons and now a bronze medal from the Western Canada Games in Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray) this August.
Another accomplished athlete is Vicki Machniak, who has been training with the Waterdoves Synchronized Swim Club for many years. During the past year she has attended four competitions including the Canadian Prairie Invitational in Saskatoon and the Sadie Caulder Knight Provincials in Regina where she earned a gold medal in both competitions and provincial champion.
Machniak and Reimer also workout in the Special Olympic Fitness program held at Snap Fitness. Special Olympics Battlefords would like to thank Snap Fitness for the support they have shown over the past two years by providing the space and equipment needed for a fitness program for the athletes.
Special Olympics will be starting their third year in the Battlefords and are always looking for volunteers who are interested in coaching a sport or who just want to come out to help and of course we are always looking for athletes. This year Rivers West or Zone 7 is looking for athletes who are interested in swimming and under the age of 28 to participate in the Saskatchewan Summer Games in 2016.
