John Paul II Collegiate student Jesse Starr won the Female Sports and Recreation Achievement award at the SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Awards of Excellence in Saskatoon May 23.
Starr was recognized for her achievements in sports, including hockey, soccer and rugby. She played for the Battlefords AAA Sharks last season, picking up a goal and three assists in 28 games.
Earlier in May, Starr was named to the Team Saskatchewan Under 18 soccer team, which will compete at the North American Indigenous Games. In 2013, Starr was selected to the Under 18 rugby team that competed at the national championship in Vancouver, B.C.
There were more than 800 people gathered at TCU Place for the awards ceremony. More than 130 youth were nominated across 10 categories.
